One-Day Conference on the "The Future of Lawyers and Legal Practice"

Organized by the EPLO and IMEDIPA at the EPLO premises in Athens Friday July 18th, 2014

GLG0064Keynote speaker in the first session Professor John Flood

The 2014 Global Law & Governance Summer School concluded its works with a one-day conference organized by the EPLO and IMEDIPA on July 18th in the center of Athens. Our GLG Summer School students were invited to attend this eminent conference that linked their studies with law practice and their future. A remarkable opportunity for interaction with some of the most acknowledged representatives of Law Practice in Greece.

GLG00010The conference included four sessions. The first session under the theme "The Lawyers' Professional Project: Past and Future" focused on a historical perspective on the way the profession has developed so far in Europe (and in Greece), the emergence of ethics regulation and the understanding of whether there is an "identity crisis" and the reasons behind it. The session's keynote speaker, Mr. John Flood, is a Professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Westminster in London and a Visiting Professor of Law at University College London as well as the author of the acclaimed "What Do Lawyers Do? An Ethnography of a Corporate Law Firm", in 2013.

The rest of the sessions included: "The Practice of Law: Law Firms and Lawyers" , "The Future of the Justice System", that delved into the reform of Justice and ultimately "The Future of Legal Education" tracing the changes needed and the potential connection of the University with legal practice. This conference provided a unique link between education, research and the market practice producing valuable input to members of the State, the Education community and the legal practice.
